I’m not a big punter’, says Mark, ‘but I have a little nibble in most of the races I have an opinion in, which means several bets each day. It seems to serve me well enough. I generally play at bigger odds which means losing runs can be commonplace but, by sticking to what I know works for me, losses are soon recovered - at least when I’m in form that is!’
‘Having a sufficient bank to play with is priority. Without it you soon wilt when the inevitable losing run sets in and then it’s game over. The support of ‘her indoors’ is also invaluable, if only to rant at on the losing days, when of course losses are never down to any misjudgment of our own - always the men on top!’
‘It’s often said that punters have never had it so good, but with so much racing, especially in the summer, it really can be tough going unless you can narrow the opportunities down with confidence. I have compiled my own speed figures for many years which gives a me a decent edge - they quickly pinpoint horses to back at decent odds and highlight short price favourites that can be safely taken on.’
